Cellphone Forensics And Investigation

The book I read to research this post was Cell Phone Forensics Investigations by Mark Wattendon which is a very good book that I read at kindle unlimited. This book is around 300 pages so is a pretty decent length. It doesn’t just look at cell but different types of mobile devices like Kindle & GPS. A kindle will normally display video and audio files in addition to e-books. It may also be necessary to find out what e-books have been downloaded and even when a file has been deleted as with a lot of devices it can be recovered. With GPS like TomTom location information is stored either on a SD card or small hard drive. These SD cards are normally write protected. You can often still copy them with the right software and a write blocker. There is a program called XRY that will do most smartphones and comes with cables etc. The cables are in two parts so the black colored one has to be connected to another black colored and the same with the red colored ones. In America any evidence uncovered that might help the defence has to be turned over to them. In many States in America it is illegal to copy child pornography even for the defence in a legal case. These means the defence will have to send someone around to examine it onsite. Nevada is one exception where a copy has to be made for defence to examine. I have to admit this is a pretty good book and one of the better books I have seen on digital forensics and I do recommend it.
